San Francisco State Clipper BayPass Pilot Program

This page provides information for those SFSU students that were selected to receive the Clipper BayPass.  Those selected would have received an email notification from OneCard@sfsu.edu on Wednesday August 17, 2022.

The Clipper BayPass will be automatically loaded on to the selected students Gator Pass account.  It can take up to one to two weeks for the BayPass to be loaded after your OneCard Gator Pass is printed.

What is the Clipper BayPass?

The Clipper BayPass is a regional transit pass that provides unlimited free access to all Bay Area transit systems that use the Clipper system.  See the link below for more information about the program.

The OneCard Gator Pass will not work on the Clippercard App. Registering your OneCard onto the Clipper App or a Mobile Wallet may invalidate your Gator Pass or BayPass

Frequently Asked Questions

You will have it for approximately two years (conditional upon staying enrolled at SF State). The BayPass will be active during the fall and spring semesters only, which is the same as the Gator Pass. The program will end in May 2024 at the end of the Spring semester.

Procedures for lost or stolen cards will be the same as before the launch of the pilot. Please contact the OneCard office about replacing lost OneCard / Gator Pass cards. A new card will be issued to you with the Clipper BayPass subject to existing card replacement fees.

No. Like your Gator Pass, you cannot transfer your card to another person—it is only for you.

No, there should be no charge for riding BART.

No. You will continue to pay only the standard Gator Pass fee. The grant-funded pilot will be covering any additional costs.

This is a pilot program designed to test the new pass and understand how students interact with this new product. Therefore, at this point in time, the Clipper BayPass is being distributed to a randomly selected group of students. 

Yes. If you are not selected to receive the new pass, you can continue to use your existing Gator Pass for unlimited rides on SF Muni (excluding cable car), SamTrans and a 50% discount on BART rides to and from the Daly City station.  The Gator Pass is only valid during the Fall and Spring semesters.  Winter intersession and summer are not included. 

Students have been selected for participation in the pilot program through a computer-generated randomization process.

No. The cable car is not included in the program.
